Original Vacuum Oil Company motor oil advertising enamel wall sign made sometime between 1920 – 1930 in the USA. Mobiloil was registered by the Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) at the U. As early as 1869, Vacuum Oil used a stylized red gargoyle to advertise petroleum-based lubricants for horse-drawn carriages and steam engines. In 1931, when Vacuum merged with Socony, the red Pegasus a symbol of speed and power was adopted as its U. In 1968, Mobil adopted new-look Pegasus service stations. Very good original condition with minimal enamel loss around the mounting holes. Some minor surface rust marks and stains across the surface of the sign which can be seen in the photos. The colours are quite well preserved with little fading or deterioration. Some spider web type fine cracks to the enamel on the right side of the sign around the the letters il in Mobiloil which can be seen in photo #7. Wear around internal edge of the mounting holes is a good indication of age and authenticity. Overall a very good authentic sign for the Petrol or Garagenalia collector and will be sure to have some interest. Any reasonable offers considered.
